An illiterate Irish exile, Edward Redmond, transported for life following the 1798 Rebellion and with neither money nor influence, acquired in his new country a remarkable wife. Together they surmounted sorrows and difficuties to eventually become prominent citizens and some of Sydney’s earliest ‘nouveau riches’.
